Among the biggest companies in the world 28 are Russian
10 апреля 2009 г.

28 Russian companies entered the Forbes Global 2000 annual rating where the biggest corporations are included. This year their number in the rating hasn’t changed much – in 2008 Russia was represented by 29 companies.

The first place in the general rating of 2009 was taken by American General Electric. In 2008 it occupied the second place giving up to the British bank HSBC. This time the financial organization hasn’t entered even top five and occupied the 6th place. The bank gave the lane to Royal Dutch Shell, ExxonMobil and BP and the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor. American telecommunication company AT&T, retail chain Wal- Mart Stores, the Spanish bank Santander and oil and gas company Chevron got into top ten.

The biggest among Russian companies was “Gazprom” – it got the 13th place. The previous year the gas monopoly occupied only the 19th place.

After “Gazprom” goes “Rosneft” in the rating of Russian companies – 64th place. A year earlier the oil group company was on the 170th place. In top five of the biggest Russian companies entered “Lukoil”,”Surgutneftegaz” and Sberbank. The elevation of positions of oil and gas companies in the rating can be determined by the sharp increase in oil prices in the first half of 2008.

In the new Forbes rating the positions of banks substantially declined. It was a consequence of the world financial crisis. For comparison in top ten of the 2008 rating there were three banks, an insurance company and an investment company. Now there are only two financial organizations in top ten.

As a basis for the rating Forbes takes four main indexes: market capitalization, the extent of assets, sales and income. This is precisely why the rating significantly differs from the numerous counterparts, which make comparison of companies only on the basis of one particular index.
