Insomnia Raises the Risk of Suicide
07 апреля 2009 г.

Chronic insomnia more than twice raises the risk of suicide - conclude the scientists. The highest risk threatens those, who wake up much earlier, than an alarm clock rings. Scientists made the accent on three main signs of insomnia: early awakening, troubles with falling asleep and poor sleeping. They defined, that if the person is not depressed, is not ill, does not have financial problems, the presence of two above mentioned symptoms of insomnia raises the risk of suicide 2,6 times. The risk of suicide is rather higher when early awakening (two hours prior the alarm clock). It was presumed that lack of sleeping would affect thinking process, provokes feeling of hopelessness and reduces ability to argue logically. They stated a hypothesis, that such frustrations suppress the elaboration of serotonin, which promotes the right mood. According to the WHO records, approximately 900 thousand people all over the world finish their lives with suicide.
